Right Clicking in Internet Explorer
The right mouse button is a handy tool. It opens popup menus. These menus change depending upon where the mouse pointer is focused. If you right click on this page opened in Internet Explorer, you can choose to:
- Go back to the previous page you visited
- Go forward to the page you visited after this one before you came back to see this one again
- Save my background tile to use on your web page
- Make this page your desktop wallpaper
- Copy the background to your clipboard
- Select everything on the page so you can paste it elsewhere
- Add it to your favorites menu so you could come back again
- View the HTML source code so you can copy my design
- Change the language alphabet displayed
- Print the page
- Refresh the page in the event some of the page elements failed to load the first time
- Review the page properties: when it was created, its URL, how many bytes it consumes.
Choosing any of the above options will not change my page.
Right-clicking on a blank space on the IE menu bar will let you choose to display buttons, current address and links bar. If you have buttons displayed, right click and choose text labels to toggle labels below buttons on and off.
Right click the address bar to cut or copy my URL or to paste a previously copied one there. Choosing Select All will select everything in the address bar. You could then cut, copy or delete it, or simply paste over it. Or, you could undo the selection.
Right-clicking the title bar provides the same menu as left-clicking the icon in the upper left corner.
Right click a link for some great options.
- Open the link (go to the new URL)
- Open the link in a new window. Then you can have both pages open (right click the task bar to tile your windows and see contents of both simultaneously)
- You can actually save the target (the page the link would take you to) to your hard drive or floppy without opening the link
- Print the target without loading it to your screen
- Copy the URL to your clipboard
- View the link's properties (URL and document type)
